2009 FPOW Kim Wilkerson Founder’s Scholarship Winner:          Anne Bastian

This years recipient, Anne Bastian, lives in Stevensville, VA and writes:

Most of us enter the veterinary field with a sincere desire to help both animals and people. As a veterinary technician, knowledge elevates the level of care the patients receive.

In today’s struggling economy, it was hard to rationalize taking on the debt load of tuition while knowing full well that a degree will make very little impact on my salary. I worried about burdening my family financially. Would I be able to meet their physical and emotional needs and still find time to study?

My favorite quote is “the willingness to do creates the ability to do”.
I made the leap of faith and enrolled in the Penn Foster Veterinary
Technology program, somehow trusting that things would all work out.

The Founder’s Award Scholarship is an honor and heaven-sent. It came at the exact moment that I needed it most. It renewed and reinforced my belief that I am following the right path.

I only wish I could convey half the gratitude I feel.
